An early morning truck fire on Sierra Highway south of the
Sierra-Newhall Avenue intersection caused extensive damage to Time
Warner Cable’s fiber optic strands, knocking out Internet service to
customers in the Newhall area.
The fire spread to about one quarter-acre of brush and was declared knocked down Wedneday at 12:53 a.m.
Time Warner technicians are making repairs to approximately 500 pairs of fiber strands. Work has been underway since shortly after the fire.
Internet service outages have been reported throughout the Newhall area, including at the Old Town Newhall Library.
