Caltrans, Metro to host public hearing on 710 Freeway extension project

May 5, 2015

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will hold a public hearing Wednesday evening at La Cañada High School to seek community feedback on a draft environmental report for the 710 Freeway extension project.
The event, which is free and open to the public, begins with a document viewing period from 5 to 6 p.m. The public hearing is scheduled to take place from 6 to 9 p.m.

The draft environmental impact report proposes five alternatives regarding a 4.5-mile gap between the freeway's end points in the cities of Alhambra and Pasadena.

Alternatives range from a "no build" option to a dual-bore tunnel estimated to cost as much as $5.6 billion. In between are options for bolstering traffic signals, creating a rapid bus line and making light rail infrastructure upgrades.

The 120-day public comment period on the alternatives ends July 6.

La Cañada High School is located at 4463 Oak Grove Drive, La Cañada.
